** When Things Go Wrong * Virus Infection and Removal **

During and after every school holiday, we notice an increase in the number of virus infected computers that are brought into the shop for repair.  At these times, children are using computers more at home and when they're not sure of how to surf the internet without leaving themselves open to a virus infection, problems can occur.  However, this isn't an issue which exclusively affects chidren using computers.  Adults too, do infect their computers, whether they've got anti-virus software installed or not.

A client contacted us a few weeks ago because their computer was telling them that it was infected.  After viewing a screenshot, it was obvious to us that it was indeed a virus, pretending to helpful, whilst ultimately trying to dupe you into paying for a non-existent service:

 He luckily didn't click on the link, but instead brought it to us to be repaired.

Some Symptoms of a Virus/Spyware Infected Computer:

* Computer has slowed down or freezes

* Computer is unresponsive or behaves strangely

* Pop up boxes which cannot be closed

* Unusual error messages

* Pop up boxes for 'anti-virus software' which claim that you have been infected

What happens next?

If you suspect that your computer may have been infected, then the best thing to do is to bring it to our Altrincham shop. Once your Laptop, Netbook, iPad, Tablet PC or MacBook has been booked in for repair, an inspection will be carried out by one of our Engineers. When they have a diagnosis, they will contact you with suggestions for the best way to rectify the problem.

Depending upon the severity of the infection, we may be able to just remove the virus and spyware from your computer.  However, in some cases, a clean installation of the Operating System (eg Windows) may be required to ensure that all traces of the infection are removed from your computer.  If this does need to happen, your files (documents, music, photos etc) will be backed up and copied back to your hard drive ready for you to access and use once you have your computer back, which, after the reinstallation of the Operating System, will be like a brand new computer again.

We always aim to get your computer back to you in full working order as quickly as possible and usually within 2 - 4 days.
